3rd "Turkish-Italian Constitutional Law Conference" organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Law Faculty, Ankara University and Bologna University commenced with opening addresses at EMU Business and Economics Faculty at 9:30 a.m. on 9 June 2015. This year's conference theme is "Rule of Law".
During the opening ceremony, EMU Law Faculty Vice Dean delivered an opening speech and thanked all participants for attending the conference. Bologna University, School of Law Studies' Director Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti expressed his happiness in visiting EMU and provided information on the topics of discussion during the conference.
Following Mezzetti, Bologna University Law Sciences Dean and Italian Law Faculties' Deans Association Chair Prof. Dr. Giovanni Luchetti thanked EMU for their hospitality and provided detailed information on Bologna University. Stressing the importance of the conference topics, Prof. Dr. Luchetti thanked all participants for their contributions.
In his opening speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam highlighted the importance of the rule of law in Cyprus. Prof. Dr. Osam also provided information on the collaboration protocol settled between Bologna University and EMU. Prof. Dr. Osam thanked all participants for taking time to attend the conference.
Following the opening addresses, the first session commenced under the moderatorship of Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca. During the first session, Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti delivered a presentation entitled "Rule of Law and Constitutional Transitions", Ankara University, Political Science Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Çınar Özen gave a talk entitled "The Rule of Law in the European Integration Process", EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen delivered a presentation entitled "Solving the Cyprus Problem: Blending Idealism with Pragmatism" and EMU academic staff member Prof. Dr. Kudret Özersay talked about "The Nature of Cyprus Conflict and Its Repercussion on Constitutional Law Issues in Negotiations".
The two-day conference housing discussions on "Rule of Law" from the Turkish and Italian perspectives has also attracted speakers from EMU Law Faculty, Business and Economic Faculty, Political Science and International Relations Department, Italia's important universities (University of Bologna, Roma Unitelma University, Milan "L. Bocconi" University) and from Ankara University Law Faculty and Political Science Faculty. The conference will end on 10 June 2015.
